A Wolf from a Different Pack: Giorgos “dw_Spartan02” Tzouras

An interview with Giorgos Tzouras aka dw_Spartan02 from Direwolves Airsoft UK

Giorgos is the 2IC of Direwolf Airsoft Team UK. While his team and my team are actually not related we treat them as brother and sister wolves.  I’ve been following Giorgos and his team for a couple of years now on Instagram and Facebook. I’m happy that he agreed to do this interview.

Here is a bit of a brief from the Direwolves UK Facebook Page,

We are the Direwolf Airsoft Team UK! Based in the West Midlands, we are the home team for Ace Airsoft Wargames (www.aceairsoft.co.uk) Our Team is 15 strong made up of two Fire teams; Fireeam Cerberus & Fireteam Helios, with a combined 27 years of both military experience and airsofting experience.

How long have you been playing?

3 years and counting…

How did you get started in airsoft?

I’ve been playing paintball for a long time, since back in the day in Greece (yeah I know the deal with it). When I came to the UK I wanted to find out what the story was here, luckily a coworker of mine was playing at the time so that’s how the whole story started.

What’s your favorite style of game play?

To be honest, all this time I’ve been playing skirmish with the occasional “milsim” style game, but it’s time for me to push it to the next level.

What are your goals in airsoft?

I want to make myself and my teammates better players, and of course get to know more people.

Do you have a favourite moment from airsoft?

I don’t really. Every game gives me new experiences that I learn from.

What do you think are the best things about airsoft?

Our community. It’s what actually makes airsoft great. I have friends all over the world! We’ve never met but we can spend hours talking about the sport we love.

What’s your home field?

Ace Airsoft in Cosford

How would you describe your personal play style?

I’m all about tactics. I hate rushing things. It’s all about the plan and the execution.

Take your time, see things through, mission accomplished.

Do you have a favourite piece of airsoft equipment?

My Warrior Assault Systems Recon plate carrier. I’ve been running with this plate for more than 2 years and I couldn’t be more satisfied.

What are your favourite fields?

The Gaol in Oakham. It’s an abandoned prison that they turned it into an airsoft site. A lot of CQB but it also has quite a few open spaces.

Is there a particular event that stands out for you?

The National Airsoft Event. It happens every year on the August Bank holiday weekend. It’s huge with more than 2500 players. Gameplay per se is not that great, 2500 players make it hard, but it’s more about the community. Meeting new people and catching up with old friends.

What would you like to see change about airsoft?

The social media hype. Sometimes people get confused that the more followers you have the better “operator” you are. Having 20k followers doesn’t make you a better or more knowledgeable player than a guy that has 200.
